POPULAR BISHOP’S INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT EXPANDS TO MEET DEMAND
Morning Round Added to Accommodate More Golfers
DALLAS – Organizers of the 8th Annual Bishop’s Invitational Golf Tournament benefiting students in need are hoping for another record-breaking event and have added a morning round to help achieve that goal. Golfers will take to the links for this year’s Bishop’s Invitational on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Four Seasons Tournament Players Course and Cottonwood Valley Course in Las Colinas. After several years of selling out and waiting lists, organizers made the decision to add the morning round beginning with a 7:30 am shotgun start and an afternoon round with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The Dallas Business Journal ranks the Bishop’s Invitational as one of the largest in North Texas.
The Catholic Diocese of Dallas unveiled the Bishop’s Invitational in 2011. Since then, more than $3.8 million has been raised to provide scholarships for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Catholic schools in the Dallas diocese. That translates into 2,465 students who have been able to receive a Catholic education courtesy of the Bishop’s Invitational.
Last year’s event yielded $645,200, the largest amount of money raised in the history of the event. Bishop Edward J. Burns, who has begun his second year as Bishop of Dallas, says he is extremely grateful to everyone who makes the Invitational such a success because of the tremendous impact it creates. “It is such a blessing to know you can provide immediate tuition assistance that can change the course of a child’s life. The ripple effect around those students has a positive impact on their families and eventually the community at large.”
CHRISTUS Health President and CEO Ernie Sadau, says his organization is honored to serve for the fifth year in a row as the Title Sponsor and to offer scholarships to many deserving students. “We take seriously the responsibility to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. Headquartered here in Dallas, we are very much a part of this community and are honored to take part in the Bishop’s Invitational as the Title Sponsor. Helping to provide children with a quality Catholic education is a noble cause.”
This year’s Co-Chairs, Mary and Bill Sladek and Amanda and Jeff Schiefelbein, continue a long tradition of strong and passionate leadership for the event. According to the Sladeks, “The goal of our Diocesan schools is to get our kids to college and to Heaven. For us, this sums up what an authentic Catholic education should be, and we are honored and privileged to be a part of such a great event that supports our Catholic schools.” The Schiefelbeins add, “With 3 young kids at home, we are excited about the Catholic education our children will receive to prepare them for college and Heaven.”
Sponsor opportunities including Named Scholarships, Sponsor-a-Student Scholarships, Hole and Team Sponsorships are still available for the September 24th event. The Farrell Cup, named for Bishop’s Invitational founder Cardinal Kevin Farrell, will be presented to the parish team with the lowest score. Last year’s winning team from Christ the King is scheduled to defend the title.
